Oral Supplements to Improve Malnutrition
Getting too little or too many nutrients that the body needs to maintain healthy tissues and organ function can cause malnutrition. Carmichael’s retail locations can help people with this condition obtain nutritional supplements for their individual needs. We offer one of (if not the largest) selections of oral products available in our service area!
There are two main types of malnutrition – undernutrition and overnutrition. Undernutrition occurs when a person lacks proper nutrition, not getting enough essential nutrients through food or when they are excreted more rapidly than they can be replaced. Overnutrition occurs when a person consumes more nutrients than they need every day, resulting in issues with being overweight and obese.
Carmichael’s nutrition department offers oral supplements in a variety of flavors and forms that include milk-based beverages, juice-based beverages, clear liquid beverages, puddings and protein powders. We carry quality brands such as Abbott, Llorens, and more. We also offer a wide range of vitamin and mineral supplements that include popular brands such as GoodSense, Nature’s Blend, Nature’s Bounty, Sundown and more. Our Crowley location has an in-house UPS station that allows us to ship certain products to homes within one to three days.
For patients who must be tube-fed to get proper nutrition, we offer completely liquid, medically nutritious formulas, including the organic, plant-based Kate Farms brand. These types of nutritional products may be covered by Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance plans when prescribed for a covered medical need. Our billing specialists can check insurance coverage and bill it for you.
We have a team of licensed pharmacists and technicians that also work with physicians, nutritionists and caregivers to meet the individual nutritional needs of patients. We serve private homes, nursing homes, hospitals and group homes. Contact a Carmichael’s representative during our normal hours of operation to discuss any oral supplements needs.
