Traveling This Holiday Season? Use Carmichael’s Essential Health Packing List

 In Lifestyle, Pharmacy

Flat lay of travel essentials–wallet, passport, first aid kit, toiletries, flashlight and batteries–with the Carmichael's logo in the bottom left corner. The holiday season means travel, gatherings with family and friends, and a chance to refresh and reconnect. But busy schedules, airports, changes in routine, and colder weather can make your health more vulnerable. At Carmichael’s Pharmacy & Medical Equipment, we’ve served generations of customers with comprehensive pharmacy and home-medical-equipment support, and we want to make sure you arrive at your destination healthy, prepared and ready to enjoy the holidays.

Here’s your go-to health-packing checklist for travel this holiday season, especially useful if you’ll be on the move, changing time zones, or sharing space with others.

  1. Medications & Prescriptions
  • If you take daily medications (for hypertension, diabetes, preventive care, etc.), pack at least an extra day’s supply in your carry-on.
  • Use the “RxLocal” app or online refill service from Carmichael’s to request refills before you leave.
  • Keep a list of your medications (name, dose, what condition) in your bag, which is useful for travel delays or doctor visits.
  • Store meds in original labeled containers if flying; it helps with security screening.
  1. Immune System and Cold/Flu Protection

Traveling means exposure to new germs, airports, crowded lounges, different climates. Include:

  • Hand sanitizer (travel size) and travel wipes.
  • Tissues, a small pack of face masks (if you’ll be in airports or on crowded transport).
  • A thermometer, which is handy if you wake up feeling off.
  • Over-the-counter cold/flu relief supplies (decongestant, cough drops, throat lozenges).
  • Immune-support supplements like Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc. Check with your pharmacist for compatibility with your meds.

At Carmichael’s, we also carry a wide variety of nutritional supplements and oral support products.

  1. Respiratory / Sleep Travel Essentials

If you use respiratory equipment, or you simply want to be sure you’re comfortable:

  • For CPAP/BiPAP users: confirm your machine is travel-friendly (airplane safe), pack all tubing, mask, filters, power cords. Your durable medical equipment team at Carmichael’s can assist with CPAP and BiPAP devices.
  • For those with breathing issues: consider a travel-sized nebulizer or rescue inhaler, if prescribed.
  • Pack a small air-purifier or travel humidifier if your destination is especially dry (hotel rooms can be).
  • Earplugs or a sleep mask is good for travel sleep hygiene.
  1. Comfort & Safety in Transit

Your body may need some extra support if you experience long flights, lay-overs, or unfamiliar beds:

  • Compression socks, especially if you’ll be seated for long periods.
  • Travel cushion/neck pillow and blanket. Staying comfortable helps your immune system.
  • A reusable water bottle. Stay hydrated. Dehydration weakens immune responses.
  • Simple first-aid kit: adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain reliever (check with your pharmacist to make sure no drug interactions).
  1. Pre-Trip Pharmacy and Equipment Check-In

Before you head out:

  • Stop by Carmichael’s or give us a call to verify your prescriptions, ensure any equipment rental/loaner (if you use home health equipment) is set up for travel.
  • Ask about portable power solutions or accommodations if you need home-medical equipment away from home.
  • If you use medical equipment at home (oxygen concentrator, CPAP, etc.), ask us about travel-mode settings, backup batteries, and airport‐/hotel-friendly set-ups. Carmichael’s has decades of experience serving home medical equipment and respiratory therapy needs.
