January Reset with Carmichael’s: A Checklist for Meds, Equipment & Nutrition

 In Lifestyle, Pharmacy

Notepad with Wellness Check written on and a stethoscope laid across the bottom; Carmichael's logo appears at the lower left.January is when routines return. Appointments restart, insurance changes kick in, and (in Louisiana) winter weather can make quick errands harder than usual. If you or someone you care for uses prescriptions, home medical equipment, or nutrition support, this “home-health reset” helps you start the year organized and safer without adding another big task to your list.

  • Refill your essentials before you’re down to the last few doses.
If you’re juggling work, school, and family schedules, set January up to be easier:
  • Use the “RxLocal” mobile app and search for “Carmichael’s” so you can order your prescriptions with us anytime.
  • If you manage medications for a loved one, keep those profiles together so you’re not hunting down details later.

We also have an interactive voice response (IVR) system phone refill line for non-emergency refill requests after our normal hours of operation: 337-783-7200.

  1. Bring your updated insurance card (even if “nothing changed”). A new year means new deductibles, new plan rules, and sometimes a new card. Having the current information on file helps prescriptions and equipment claims move more smoothly. Carmichael’s bills Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. A quick update now can prevent delays later.
  2. Do a quick “safety scan” of home equipment. Many falls happen at home, and winter brings extra slip risks. Take five minutes to check the gear you rely on:
  • Mobility: wheelchairs, walkers, rollators, canes, crutches
  • Bedroom support: fully electric beds, alternating pressure mattresses, trapeze bars
  • Transfers: patient lifts, transfer boards
  • Bathroom: bedside commodes, raised toilet seats, tub transfer benches

If anything wobbles, squeaks, or just doesn’t feel right, don’t “make it work.” Carmichael’s medical equipment team is built around coordinating home health needs, with training, safety guidance, and follow-up to help ensure equipment is used properly.

  1. Respiratory-ready your home for cold snaps. Winter air and seasonal illness can be tough on breathing. If you use respiratory therapy equipment, check:
  • Power/backup plan (especially for concentrators and CPAP/BPAP)
  • Tubing/masks/filters condition
  • A clean, consistent setup spot to reduce trip hazards at night

Carmichael’s supplies home respiratory therapy equipment, including oxygen concentrators, portable oxygen cylinders, nebulizers (and related inhalation drugs), and CPAP/BPAP devices. Our respiratory therapy team also coordinates prescribed therapy with the patient’s physician while training patients and caregivers on correct use.

  1. Don’t forget nutrition support
If you’re using oral supplements or enteral nutrition, January is a good time to confirm:
  • You have enough product on hand (plus a small supply for weather days)
  • You’re using the right formula and accessories as prescribed

Carmichael’s medical equipment services include oral and enteral nutritional products as core service lines.

  1. If you’re on IV therapy, know what “home support” can look like. Some conditions require medication by needle or catheter. Carmichael’s infusion therapy services are designed to help patients receive infusion therapy safely at home, with staff working alongside physicians and nurses.
  2. Create a one-page “caregiver cheat sheet.” Tape it inside a cabinet or keep it on your phone:
  • Current medication list (name, dose, schedule)
  • Medical equipment list (model and key settings if applicable)
  • Provider phone numbers
  • Your pharmacy and equipment contact info

Carmichael’s is built around one-stop coordination for pharmacy and home medical equipment needs. Instead of piecing together support from multiple places, you can start the year with one local team that helps coordinate prescriptions, equipment, respiratory therapy, and nutrition.
