ENTERAL NUTRITION
Enteral nutrition is the nutritional feeding of a patient directly into the patient’s stomach, whereas parenteral nutrition is the nutritional feeding of a patient through the patient’s vein (see “Pharmacy Infusion Therapy – Parenteral Nutrition” for additional information concerning parenteral nutrition).
Enteral nutrition should be considered when a patient can no longer consume calories and protein at a level adequate to maintain ideal body weight and optimal health. The patient is fed a completely liquid, medically nutritious formula instead of solid food. The formula is fed through a feeding tube that has been placed in either the stomach or small intestine.
Carmichael’s experienced technicians work closely with the primary caregiver to ensure the patient obtains the proper nutritional intake during treatment. Our knowledgeable staff makes it easier for home health agencies, physicians and, most importantly, patients to transition into a stable home care environment. Our extensive service line and reputable customer service make it easier for home health agencies and patients to obtain nutritional packets and equipment, regardless of their location – even in rural areas.
